KEVIN GARNETT TO CELTS...?!?!?!?!?!

When I first heard this news at 6:30 this morning, I nearly drove my car off the side of the road. Needless to say, I called nearly 3/4 of the male contingent in my cell phone (The Commodore and I have already spoken a dozen times today). The ONLY time I have been more pumped in my life about a pending trade was....

...when the Yanks pawned off Soriano-for-Alex Rodriguez, after the Red Sox had massaged his ball$ all offseason (this trade literally caused me to call EVERY single person I knew).

As I've been in-and-out of meetings this morning, a detailed analysis of this pending move is forthcoming (once official)....

DANNY! DANNY!! DANNY!!!

A new report from Shira Springer of the Boston Globe says that Al Jefferson is not currently included in a potential trade for Kevin Garnett and that the deal is not imminent.

According to Springer, the current deal stands with the Celtics sending Gerald Green, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff and two first-round picks to the Timberwolves for Garnett. Al Jefferson is not included in the deal at the moment, which raises many questions, including how the teams would deal with Garnett's trade clause that calls for a 15 percent salary increase. Depending on which source you read, this trade is not a done deal and there are still more questions than answers. In any case, it appears that Garnett is close to being traded to the Celtics. Springer is clearly retarded. Without Al's $2.48 million salary (for this upcoming season) included in the deal, the salaries of the 4 other mentioned players still does not even combine to equate into matching salaries. For trading purposes, salaries must be w/i 25% of each other.

Garnett's 2007 salary - $22M

Gomes - $770K
Telfair - $2.56M
Ratliff - $11.67M
Green - $1.44M

Gomes/Telfair/Ratliff/Green = $16.44M

Garnett = $22M

25% of 22M = $5.5M

22M - $5.5M = $16.5M

Thus, this proposed deal by Springer doesn't work. Springer should invest some time into a little research before putting something in ink.

Actually, without Jefferson included...they are off more than I originally thought.

Teams cannot acquire more than 125% of the salary they trade away.

Thus, Boston must include AT LEAST $17.75M in salaries to obtain Garnett's $22M contract.

Needless to say, the outlined $16.44M is less than $17.75M.

Again, Springer is stupid.
