Vanessa Bryant is a 10...

In the past, we've featured photos of Vanessa Bryant, the wife/arm candy of Chieftain's favorite Kobe Bryant, 29.

However, in this music video, you're able to get an up-close and personal look of exactly what I'm talking about. Vanessa Bryant, 25, is the female in the shiny silver get-up that continuously pops in-and-out of frames (in the low-rider...she later shows up in a few frames wearing a red top).

For the record, this is the exact video in which the couple met. In November 1999, Vanessa was working as a back-up dancer in the above video while Kobe was working on his album in the same building (an album which was never released).

* Meaningless Trivia of the Day: Vanessa Bryant is the only person in the world to own an automatic-only Lamborghini MurciƩlago. For her 19th birthday (2001), Kobe gave her the car as a gift. According to car enthusiast magazine Dub, upon realizing Vanessa could not drive a manual transmission, Kobe had the car converted to an automatic by having a special adapter for the transmission installed. The estimated cost of the car after conversion and customization was $400,000.

Desperate Housewives Love Point Guards

Granted, the source for this article comes from Celebitchy & Star Magazine....but it has been reported that Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher hit it off with Warriors point guard Baron Davis at the Tony Parker/Eva Longoria wedding reception on July 7th.

Tony Parker… introduced the brunette star to a fellow NBA guard, the Golden State Warriors’ Baron Davis, 28, at the newlyweds’ reception on July 7. And after that, Stephen Kay back home seemed to be miles from the actress’ mind!

“Baron and Teri really hit it off,” said a friend of the TV beauty. “They talked and danced all night and had a great time. They couldn’t seem to get enough of each other!”…

As for Teri’s relationship with Stephen, another friend of the star says, “I think she hasn’t had her heart in it for a while. She definitely seemed open to meeting someone new…”

On July 24, Teri and Baron were spotted together again at the Hollywood eatery Pace, where they sat on the same side of a four-person table, “looking like a couple of love-struck teenagers!

...I have to think that one of the NBA's best point guards can land a better piece of a$$ than Teri Hatcher. She looks like something that crawled out of Fraggle Rock. She is friggin' heinous. I don't care how well she does herself up, she is a wrinkled, dried up hag. C'mon Baron....give us a f*cking break here. Use your hammer for something else, please. I can only hope you had wayyyyyy too much Crystal at the wedding, and you just felt like Teri was an easy target for you to pummel at the after-after party. Don't tell me you plan on continuing to shove no-look passes and smash sessions in the future. This is definitely a "hit it, then quit it" type of 40-year-old. It's time to travel around the country and cross up some groupies.

Oh, and Teri....I think I speak for everyone when I ask you...."Why the long face?" You're heinous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which is the More Ridiculous Ride?

The battle of who has the stronger hand of PIMP JUICE...

By now, we've all seen Darren McFadden's car (his Arkansas red, Ford Crown Victoria...which sits on 26 inch rims). But, Darius Miles' vehicle has just now come to the forefront...by way of his midnight black Pontiac Grand Ville (from the mid 1970's).

So, my question to all of you is...

When taking in all factors, which car is more obscene? The obvious answer in Miles' ride, but one must consider that McFadden is merely a junior in COLLEGE. One can only imagine what he'll do to top this...when he's actually getting paid like a top NFL pick.

It's clear that McFadden takes the whole, "Go big or go home" mantra to entirely different level, as evidenced by his workout regiment (see bottom photo), his propensity for tattoos (see bottom photo), and his "lavish" style choices.

(And, for the record...despite what some readers may or may not believe, I have NO ill will towards D-Mac. I think he's a tremendous football player. I don't, however, think Arkansas can repeat last year's success -- even though they miss out on both Florida and Georgia this year. It's that simple. Why? Because Houston Nutt may be the weakest coach in the SEC, especially when you consider that he just lost his jewel of an Offensive Coordinator in Gus Malzahn...the new head coach at Tulsa).

Ye + Yao = Woah

Per NBC Sports this morning....

BEIJING (AP) -- Yao Ming married his long-term girlfriend Monday at a swanky hotel in his hometown of Shanghai.

Yao, the Houston Rockets' star center, tied the knot with Ye Li, a 6-foot-2 player on the Chinese women's basketball team in a ceremony at the Shangri-La Hotel, sina.com reported.

Ok, so the 7 foot 6 inch tall Yao....married a 6 foot 2 inch tall WOMEN's basketball player? Holy $hit.....how tall are these friggin' kids going to be? That should just be illegal. This family could breed the next generation of NBA All-Stars. I'm sure by age 5, their kid will tower over me and absolutely burger me if I tried to do a lay up. Here's to an entire family of Gheorghe Muresan's running around the world. My Giant: The Next Generation.

Did You Know (Reggie Lewis Version)?

Born and raised in Baltimore, MD (an absolute mecca for talented ballers), former Celtics captain Reggie Lewis (the #22 overall selection in the 1987 Draft averaged 17.6 PPG during his shortened career) was a key member of the Dunbar High School basketball team that went 50-0 during the 1981/1982 season.

An undefeated basketball season is great and all, but an undefeated HIGH SCHOOL squad which featured 4 future NBA players in nothing short of incredible!! The others?
  • Muggsy Bogues (12th overall pick in 1987 Draft by Washington Bullets...out of Wake Forest)
  • Reggie "Silk" Williams (4th overall pick in the 1986 Draft by LA Clippers...out of Georgetown)
  • David Wingate (2nd round pick in 1986 Draft by Philadelphia 76ers...out of Georgetown)

As a side note...when playing with the Spurs, David Wingate was accused of raping first a 17-year-old woman...and a couple days later, a 21-year-old woman. He was eventually cleared of both charges, as both victims refused to testify. Shady!

Got Gomes?

An article in today's Boston Herald has the NBA launching an investigation a few months ago in regards to quotes made by Boston Celtics forward Ryan Gomes after the Celtics lost yet another game that allowed them to clinch a spot in the NBA lottery. Among some of the quotes the NBA was investigating were....

“The players weren’t thinking about the lottery and all that, but reality is reality. Now that our position in the lottery is set, hopefully we can go out and win some games. "

“Things could change now, but another thing you’ve got to think of is that (Doc Rivers) was doing that for a reason. It could be for that reason (securing lottery position) or it could be for getting the younger guys some playing time or seeing who’s going to be here next year. There’s a lot of things that go into that.”

Gomes had to have a conference call with someone from the NBA to help justify what he said that evening to reporters. Gomes emphatically denies that he was tanking games in order to help the Celtics gain a better draft position.

“They called me on my home phone. We did a conference call and they taped it. We ran through what was said. I just told them the things that were said weren’t meant to be taken that we were out there trying to lose. I told them that whenever I was in the game or any of us were out there we were trying to perform for our team and for ourselves. I’m not going to go out there and try to miss 10 shots or turn the ball over 10 times. Our intentions were not to lose.”

Is the NBA serious here? Ryan Gomes plays his ball$ off night after night, and it really suck$ that he had to have his name dragged through the mud here. Obviously, someone leaked this information to the media, and Gomes was forced to defend himself. I'm all for the NBA looking into any sort of behavior they believe to be suspicious, but I think it should all be done in confidentiality. This guy has nothing to be ashamed of. He's a class act. I'll be the first one to admit I don't watch as many Celtics games as half of the people that read this site, but I can assure you that when I am forced to watch the game....Gomes is impressive. Keep doing your thing, kid.

Will Mike Vick and Mark Cuban Unite?

Cue the United Football League (UFL)...

If you can recall a few months back, the UFL is a professional Ameican football league being organized by Bill Hambrecht, a Wall Street investor and former minority partner in the USFL's Oakland Invaders, and Tim Armstrong, a senior executive at Google. At it stands now, Mark Cuban has agreed to purchase a franchise for $30 million (reportedly in Las Vegas). Cuban has said that he believes that the league will fill its rosters with quality players that go late in the NFL draft, undrafted free agents, and/or players that are released by NFL teams (insert Mike Vick here).

Sports Illustrated's Peter King proposes the following in today's "Monday Morning QB"...

"I wondered this week if that new football league -- you know, the Mark Cuban league -- would take Vick as its marquee player. Don't scoff. Imagine the TV ratings that league would get with Vick quarterbacking the New York Whoevers on Opening Night 2009."

...Let's face it, Mike Vick's NFL days are virtually over. I mean, it's the Fed's that have charged him over the "Bad Newz Kennels". When indicted by the Fed's, the defendant's success rate (in defending himself/herself) is less than 5%. These are the facts. State charges can be beaten...federal charges are no joke!

Wasn't it Mark Cuban that explained Kobe's pending trail in the following manner...

"All press is good press."

Just saying....

Brand Loyalty

Kevin Durant has inked a seven year deal with Nike worth an estimated $60 million dollars, including a $10 million dollar signing bonus. Adidas had an offer on the table for Durant....a $70 million dollar deal with a 12 year signing bonus. However, since Durant has ties to Nike dating back to 8th grade, he chose to stay loyal, and stay with Nike.

Huh? I wish I could make decisions that would basically throw away $12 million bucks. Wow. You know life is good when you're turning down $70 million dollar deals in order to sign $60 million dollar deals. All this on top of your millions that you will earn annually for your salary.....wow. Kevin Durant is now one rich mother f*cker. Maybe he can spot me a hundo, or maybe a G. The Nashville crew could sure use some free extra ca$h to do unthinkable acts on the ride down to the Music City.

Swoosh.

Antoine's Wiggle Stolen in Robbery

Current Miami Heat and former Boston Celtic forward Antoine Walker was robbed at gunpoint at his home in Chicago on Monday. Walker, along with another unidentified individual, were held at the home at gunpoint while the robbers stole a vehicle, cash, and jewelry. Also stolen in the ruckus was Antoine's patented "wiggle" move used to humiliate teams after a crucial basket. Antoine was said to be very upset about losing his signature dance, because as cars, jewelry, and cash can be replaced.....the wiggle was a once and a lifetime partner.

Chicago police have one suspect that automatically comes to mind whenever anything weird like this happens, R. Kelly. He pees on chicks, so he'll be questioned and detained until the pervert that stole the wiggle is brought to justice.

To read about what really happened.....

"The Kobe Video" Has Been Released

By now, I'm sure you've all heard about "The Kobe Video"...the 25 second clip that features Kobe discussing and dissing the Lakers organization with several strangers in a dining parking lot.

The terds over at The Kobe Video have held out a month to release this garbage????

Quite honestly, this video shows me next to nothing (to watch the video in entirety, follow the jump). Huge disappointment!!

UPDATE:
Deadspin has located a photo of the supposed "Kobe Video" guys (see top photo above). Yep, herbs!

Anyways, I just caught up on the latest episodes of 'Entourage' last night -- is it me or is that guy on Kobe's left (our right) Billy Walsh???

Lastly, is the red Nike shirt that Kobe is wearing from the Tiger Woods collection?? It's the same shirt that Tiger's newly refined 'guns' unleashed upon the sporting world (at the US Open) just a few weeks back.

Your Daily Shawn Kemp Fix

As reported by the Associated Press...

Any look at the life of Bobby Cutts, Jr. has to include the women and children in it. His oldest daughter, Taylor, was born out of wedlock to a girlfriend in 1997. A younger daughter, Breonna, was born to another woman in 2001, shortly before Cutts married her. His son, 2-year-old Blake, was born to girlfriend Jessie Davis while Cutts was separated from his wife. Relatives say Cutts and Davis were due to have another daughter, Chloe, early next month. But now Cutts is accused of murdering Davis and the unborn girl. … Cutts and Nikki Giavasis, Taylor’s mother, met while attending nearby Walsh University. Taylor has lived with Giavasis for most of her life in California, but Cutts challenged the custody arrangement in 2005. … Susan Hulit Burns, Taylor’s court-appointed guardian, said she was bothered by how often Giavasis switched apartments and daycare providers, questioning the effect on Taylor. She said she was also bothered that Cutts “conceived a child during his separation” from his wife, according to a June 2006 court filing. In 1998, Cutts was accused of breaking into Giavasis’ home while she was inside with former NBA player Shawn Kemp of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Cutts pleaded no contest to a disorderly conduct charge and was sentenced to three years’ probation.

Nothing all that interesting here - only that this story cements the fact that all baby momma drama always comes back to the King of it all...Shawn Kemp. Ladies and gentlemen, lock your doors tonight because it's official...Mr. Kemp will drink and bang ANYTHING.

No truth to the rumor that both Cutts and Kemp were/are part of the "Spur Posse". Never heard of the "Spur Posse"?? The "Spur Posse" was a group of high school boys from Lakewood, California, (many of them top high school athletes) who used a point system to keep track of and compare their sexual conquests. The group came to national attention on March 18, 1993, when police arrested a number of the members for various sexual crimes.

On second thought, our own Simply Suds has become the modern day Shawn Kemp.

"Gilbertology"

Gilbert Arenas gets it. The 3-time All-Star is a great ambassador for all of sports, as he fully appreciates what defines the game...that's right, the fans!

As blogs are taking over the world, "Agent Zero" was early to the game. In what has become daily reading for me, Arenas' recent blog entry (http://www.nba.com/blog/gilbert_arenas.html) outlines the following...

...My fear that I was having was falling, that was my biggest fear – falling on my leg. Wouldn’t you know, we were riding on the freeway and I had to get off and go on the pike towards the airport and Crystal City. The people behind me were too close so I couldn’t break and I had to just jump the curb going at least 15 miles an hour.

Whoo! That wasn’t a pretty sight. I had grass stains and all sorts of stuff. I fell on my good leg so it was nothing to worry about. All the cars were stopping and asking, “You alright?” I was like, “Yeah, you know, my ego is hurt but that’s about it.”

I wasn’t wearing a bike helmet. The only people who wear bike helmets are 13-year old girls and Tony Hawk, but that’s skateboarding and he’s doing flips and stuff. I’m going straight. Ha, well I guess I did end up doing a flip off my bike, but it wasn’t a planned one.

Granted, I may be pulling at straws a little here, but I find Arenas' entries to be amusing. They're fun. They're fan-friendly. They're real.

I cannot reiterate enough how much I sweat the attitude and swagger that Arenas plays with. After all, it's clear that he thrives playing under criticism. Sh*t, he dons the number "0" because he was told in high school that he would "get 0 minutes at Arizona."

Fast forward to Arenas' sophomore season at Arizona, in which he lead the team in scoring. Following the season, Arenas received assurances that he would be a first-round pick. As a result, Gilbert declared for the NBA draft, bought himself a $55K Cadillac Escalade (and added more than $50K in accessories). He watched the draft from a hotel room in Marina del Rey, but when the first round passed without him being drafted, Arenas threw his newly purchased jewelry out the window, turned off the TV, called then-Arizona assistant Rodney Tention and cried.

When Tention told him that the Golden State Warriors drafted him No. 31, Arenas said: "That's the worst mistake the NBA has made. I'm going to the gym right now."

In closing, listen to this "lunatic's" (as Adonal Foyal describes him) perfect shoe commerical:

You know how I always throw my jersey into the stands after a game? In Washington, they just go crazy for it. So in this commercial, that's what I'm gonna do with my shoes. I've just hit a game winner, and I throw these shoes. Everyone starts to react, and you see everything in slow motion. Everyone's pushing, shoving, doing whatever it takes to try to get to these shoes. People from the 400 level, they're jumping off the ledge, they're missing the pile, hitting nothing but chairs, and you can just see in people's faces like, Ooooh, that hurt. While all this stuff's going on, one of the shoes pops out of the crowd, and a little girl gets it and she takes off. A couple of people see she has it, and they start chasing her, and she's looking back running—and then she gets clotheslined by a kid in a wheelchair. So he picks the shoe up and says (he's gonna have the only line in the commercial),"They said I couldn't get it. Heh. Impossible is nothing." And then he rolls off.

Mike Conley Hasn't Reached Balla Status Yet

To date, I've made it very clear that Mike Conley, Jr. is my favorite player in this draft. I love watching him play. His game is so fundamental...so effortless. When we look back on this draft, Mike Conley will be remembered as the third best player from this year's draft class.

Anyways, all of that is besides the point right now. The point of this blog is that Conley, Jr. recently got a little (or a lot, depending on how you want to look at it) ahead of himself. In Conley's recent blog, he inked the following:

"On the way to the airport something crazy happened to me. I was listening to this song called 'Joke's on You' which is on the new CD by Fabolous, when out of nowhere it sounded like he said my name. I sat there for a minute and thought to myself that I didn't just hear what I thought I heard. So I rewinded it a couple of times to make sure and I found that he definitely used my name in the song. I never thought that my name would ever be used in a song, especially not one by Fabolous. The first person that I called was Greg Oden so I could brag to him. He didn't believe me until he heard it for himself."

You can listen to the song here.

Well, Mike...I'm hear to drop a bomb on you -- Pusha T never mentions your name in the song. Instead, the name he drops is actually that of MIKE COLLIER (at the 2:32 mark of the track)! The entire track is about comedians, which is Collier's exact profession.

Crunk Ain't Dead

Kenny Anderson is back!!! That's right, folks...Kenny Anderson is the new coach of the ATLANTA KRUNK (of the CBA, formerly known as the Atlanta Krunk Wolverines). No joke...that's their real team name (top photo is their real logo).

I'm still investigating whether or not white players are allowed on this team. I can't imagine they are.

Whenever I think Kenny Anderson, I immediately think back to the 2001 Super Bowl (Pats - Rams). At the time, I was still in college. A bunch of us went to the Celts early afternoon game (I believe they moved the game to noon), and then all spilled over to The Rack for the Super Bowl. And, to our surprise...almost the entire Celtics roster ending up showing up for the game. What I will never forget...is the absolute pig (when I say pig, I'm talking Monique's size...you know, the rhino on BET) that Kenny Anderson was fondling in plain view. If The Win Column were around back then, the entire country would have ran wild with the hypothetical video I would have taken.

Vin & Tonic

It was only a matter of time. As reported on USAToday.com,

Former NBA All-Star Vin Baker, whose 14-year NBA career was marred by bouts of depression and alcoholism, was charged early Tuesday with drunken driving after leaving an eastern Connecticut casino. Baker, 35, was spotted driving erratically after leaving Foxwoods Resort Casino, according to a state police report. He failed a sobriety test and was charged with driving while impaired, police said.

Take a chance, make it happen...

As The NBA Finals Wrap Up...

As the San Antonio Spurs are on the verge of capturing their 4th NBA championship (1999, 2003, 2005, 2007) in the last 9 years, much discussion surrounds whether or not they are a dynasty?

In short...NO!

And, this is coming from an individual that enjoys watching Tim Duncan & Co. methodically (and fundamentally) embarrass opponents and defensive sets. This is why I dislike the greater media -- this is an awful topic for debate. How can a team that has NEVER won back-to-back titles be considered a "dynasty"???? I fail to comprehend the logic.

If the Spurs win their 5th title (in 10 years) next season, then (and only then) I will allow you to approach me about the same subject. Why? Because then, the Spurs would have AT LEAST won consecutive championships. To be honest, a better argument an be made that Shaq & Kobe teamed up to comprise a much more dynamic "dynasty" than Tim Duncan & Co. No??? Shaq & Kobe went back-to-back-to-back, only to quickly destruct and go their separate ways. So, yes...the Spurs have endured more tenure, but the Lakers were nearly (or just) as efficient in many fewer years. Last I checked, it's nearly impossible to establish two dynasties (in the same sport) in a span of less than a decade.

Continuing on this point, it's like saying Nolan Ryan was a better pitcher than Sandy Koufax. Huh? Exactly, it's not even a comparison -- both great in their own right, but Koufax was the FAR superior pitcher. But, because Nolan Ryan played 27 seasons (compared to Koufax's 12 seasons), then it's quite obvious why Koufax's total stats pale in comparison.

Anyways, on a different and more appropriate note...Robert "Big Shot Bob" is about to win his 7th championship. With that said, is he a Hall of Famer?? At first thought, you may brush this question off. However, it actually requires much deeper thought. Think about it...KC Jones won 8 championships (he played a total of 9 seasons...all with Bill Russell, mind you) -- and, in turn, was inducted into Springfield in 1989. His numbers??

In 25.9 minutes/game (9-year career), KC Jones averaged 7.4 points, 4.3 assists, and 3.5 rebounds.

If you include KC Jones as a Hall of Famer, "Big Shot Bob" is an eventual lock...a no-brainer...a slam dunk! In 24.9 minutes/game (15-year career thus far), Horry has averaged 7.2 points, 2.2 assists, and 4.9 rebounds. Not to mention, Horry has always saved his best for the playoffs -- as he has knocked down dagger-after-dagger-after-dagger for his entire career. And, to take it a step further...in my expert opinion, when Horry was teamed with Olajuwon (most specifically, in 1994 and 1995...when the Rockets went back-to-back in Jordan's "gambling" absence), Horry was DEFINITELY a top 5 overall player in the league. At that time, Horry was Olajuwon's Pippen. On the other hand, KC Jones was NEVER an elite player -- he was an afterthought on those legendary Celtics' teams (Jones never averaged more than 9 points in a single season).

At the end of the day, neither KC Jones nor Robert Horry are Hall of Fame worthy. However, the "pundits" incomprehensibly set the precedent with KC Jones. Thus, once such a standard has been set, the committee must remain consistent in their selection process.

Discuss...

Most Desirable NBA Commodities (Part I)

Similar to how Bill Simmons puts together a yearly Top 50 list of what NBA stars currently have the highest trade value on the open market (including performance/age/salary/etc), I plan to run my own rankings by week's end (essentially, because I don't want to be accused of ripping off any of Simmons' assessments). Why? Because let's be serious...I challenge you to find me one human that knows the NBA and/or MLB better than your boy, Chieftain.

Before compiling such a list, I just wanted to let the readers know that my initial suspicions seemed to have been confirmed. What exactly am I talking about? Word out of NBA circles have alluded to the rumor that the Blazers have denied a straight-up swap of Garnett-for-the 2007 #1 pick.

Does anyone still not fully believe in Oden?? Does anyone still think that last month's draft lottery won't be as negatively influential (on the Celtics) as was the "Tim Duncan" draft of 1997??

So, yes...that's right -- the 2007 #1 overall pick (Greg Oden) is tentatively slotted as my 4th most valuable commodity/asset in professional basketball...only behind:

1. Lebron James, 22 (he's not the best...but, considering he's only 22, he DEFINITELY has the highest trade value)
2. Kobe Bryant, 28
3. Tim Duncan, 31

...Stay tuned, as the next 46 will be unvieled in the coming days.

Carry on...

Why is it Assumed That Tony Parker is French??

When I think Tony Parker...I think Eva Longoria, the San Antonio Spurs, lightning quickness, points in the piant, and his French roots.

Wait, Tony Parker isn't French?????

Wikipedia notes that William Anthony Parker was born is Belgium, but raised in France. His father is African-American while his mother is Dutch. Call me crazy, but doesn't that make him half African-American and half-Dutch...and ZERO French???

(Disclaimer: I fully realize this isn't an entertaining post...it's just that I'm really confused and wanted to know if anyone else had any further information. This is just how my mind works.)

LBJ Just Popped His Cherry

Wade, Nowitzki, Nash, & KG...move over -- you have been FAAAAAR surpassed. Tonight, Lebron James cemented himself as the 3rd best player in the NBA. Lebron just poured in one of the greatest individual performances in NBA history, as the Cavs knocked off the Pistons 109-107 in double OT...IN DETROIT!!!

In the past, I have said that Barbosa was the quickest player in the league. I was wrong...I apologize (you won't hear that often). Lebron is the fastest, quickest, and strongest guard in the NBA. When Lebron chooses to take over a game, he cannot be guarded...no if's, and's, or but's about it. He continuously split the half-court double team, to the tune of thunderous dunk-after-dunk-after-dunk (and when he throws it down, his head is prone to be snapped...as his head is WELL above the rim). There has never been a more dominating 18 minutes in the history of basketball, at any level (including street ball)...not by Bird, not by Kobe, not by MJ. Not by anybody.

In 51 minutes, 18-for-33 from the field. 48 points. 9 rebounds. 7 assists. 2 turnovers.

He scored the final 25 points for the Cavs!! 29 of his team's last 30 points!!

I'm in awe. I'm amazed. I'm speechless. As Sir Charles would say, I just witnessed a raging inferno!!! If you missed this finish, shame on you...you missed history!

THIS SERIES IS OVER. And, LBJ has done it with NO supporting cast (you hear that, Paul Pierce).

Thank you, Lebron -- you have finally proven to us all that you really do care. You are the "King". You will never be doubted again. You are a menace!

(If I'm a Pistons fan, I'm wondering why the hell no one leveled Lebron on one of his many drives...if for nothing else but to at least instill some lingering doubt in the back of James' mind as he drove to the hoop at will. Bad, bad coaching).
