Money Well Spent??

How do these numbers sound to you? 22-29 with a .431 winning percentage and 13.5 games back of the league leader. Awful, right? If you were running/own this team, those numbers kind of make you want to lock yourself in your basement with a handle of Jim Beam and a shotgun and not come out until either one was empty. Today SI released their list of top 50 paid athletes in the country. How would you feel about those numbers, if after looking at that list, you noticed that 7.......7!!!!! players on your team were on that list. I don't think I'm going out on a limb here by saying that's as embarassing as having your mom walk in on you while your beating off. Here are the Yanks that appear on the list. Now keep in mind this included endorsements, so its not total salary by teams, but the average endorsement deal among these players is about $3.25 mil, topping off with Jeter getting $7 million and bottoming out with both Pettitte and Giambi getting $500,000 each.

1. Jeter: $29,000,000

2. A-ROD: $28,000,000

3. Clemens: $22,500,000

4. Giambi: $22,000,000

5. Matsui: $19,000,000

6. Pettitte: $16,500,000

7. Damon: $15,000,000

The only Sox player on the list was Manny, raking in $20,500,000 last year. I know you always hear about how huge the Yank's payroll is, but seeing it like this really helps you put into perspective exactly how absurd it really is. If you want to see the complete list click on link below. Discuss....

This is a joke, right?? How can an individual of Red Sox Nation possibly complain about salaries at this day and age???? The Red Sox are on the exact same playing level as Steinbrenner now. You sound like a Devil Ray.

This post includes the most contradictions that I've ever seen. Terrible research, terrible post.

The Red Sox will win the division this year -- they are built perfectly for the regular season. The Yanks will win the Wild Card. And, when they qualify, they are perfectly constructed for a 7-game series. PERFECTLY CONSTRUCTED - better so than any year since 2000.

FYI...Dice-K isn't even one of the best 25 pitchers in the AL. When Clemens & Hughes are in-fold, Dice-K would not crack the Yanks' starting rotation. HE SUCKS. I could hit .300 off him (fastballs high in the zone...all day, every day).

With Trot in town, how's that 5-year / $70M investment in JD Drew look now? As always, I was right.

If you can possibly explain to me two things in a clear comprehensive way then I think you are eligible for a docorate from Harvard.

1. Do you really thing Dice-K wouldn't crack the starting rotation on the yankees??? If it was at all possible and he was on the market again guarantee they would break the bank to sign him.

2. How in the hell are the Yankees built well for anything, and in particular a seven game series.......????????????????

Wang, Pettitte, and Clemens are all FAAAAAAAAR better options than Dice-K (I'm not even going to spit stats and/or debate this issue...it's a closed matter). Hughes is the #1 prospect in baseball - and in limited innings, it is clear why. Many scouts think he could be the BEST Yankee SP of all-time. Thus, you're only debate is with Mussina. Let's be honest, both Mussina & Dice-K suck! That being said, you may have an argument with Dice-K slotting in as the Yankees' "Julian Tavarez". Either way, Dice-K would be bullpen-bound come playoffs (assuming full health of all other starters).

As far as the Yanks being built for the postseason? This goes without saying, but considering your limited baseball knowledge...I'll dumb it down for you:

In the playoffs, your rotation and bullpen shrinks. Everyone is on a much shorter leash. Only 3-4 starters are used (Wang, Pettitte, and Clemens comprise the most dynamic trio in the game). With the exception of Bruney, the bullpen is terrible right now. But, do you really doubt Rivera?? If so, get your head examined! THE ONLY THING CASHMAN MUST DO BY THE TRADE DEADLINE IS ADD 2 NEW RELIEVERS. Once completed, the Yanks will have the "ultimate postseason team", as depth is FAR less important in a 7-game series than it is in a 162 game season. It will then ONLY be a matter of making the postseason.

The Yanks' offense is brutal right now, as they continuously fail to move runners along. But, do you really believe that star-studded offense will stay stagnant all year??? Please, please, please smarten up!!

i won't even justify that with a response. Dice K is Naaaaaasty and will emerge as one of the best pitchers in the league in the coming years. AND, in the playoffs i'd much rather have the sox rotation than the yankees....nuff said. last thing i'm saying is that you're talking a lot of game for a team that in all likely hood won't even make the post-season....and yes at this stage of the game i do doubt rivera

Well, this proves it...you and I clearly define "nasty" in different ways.

I would never term a 4.83 ERA and 1.31 WHIP as "nasty" (and no previous experience to justify otherwise). NEVER - just would never come out of my mouth.

In his last 8 starts, ONLY 3 OF THEM HAVE BEEN "QUALITY STARTS". In case you didn't know, a "quality start" is an ERA of 4.50 (3 runs or fewer allowed in at least 6 innings). Just terrible!

And, oh yeah...wasn't this the time in which Hideki Irabu was expected to dominate, considering no teams had seen him before now???

both raise interesting points, i must say. and while im a big time sox fan, i will admit that dice-k is far from nasty. his wins have come cuz the sox score 8 runs a game and he gives up 5 or 6. that wont work in the playoffs. however, i find it hard to believe the argument about hughes. first off, hes on the DL, hes a rookie and hes unproven. he did have a no-no going when he pulled his hammy, but playoff experience goes a long way in baseball. he may be great someday but i wouldnt rest my playoff life on him. as a sox fan, ive learned to never count the yanks out. however, they are playing about as bad as ive ever seen them play. as for the wild card, it may be difficult the way the indians, tigers and angels have been playing. i think this argument should start back up in august, when the playoff push really begins. and why is everyone hyping up this hughes guy? he wasnt even penciled in to play in the big leagues at all this year, hes only there cuz the staff has so many injuries. how is he all of a sudden the key ingredient to turning it around. the only thing that got turned around were the 4 homers he gave up to the sox, in a row mind you. he may be a stud someday, agreed, but hes not the answer now.

Hughes has never pitched against the Sox. Thus, it's impossible for him to have given up 4 consecutive HR's to the Sox.

FYI...the pitcher in question is CHASE WRIGHT, not Hughes.
